New Student Employee Training Guide

Organizational Responsibilites

Library policies and operations are the responsibility of the Musicians Institute Director of Library Services. When the Director of Library Services is not immediately available, responsibility for the library rests upon a team of two Library Staff Supervisors. In the absence of Library Staff Supervisors responsibility rests upon library student employees with expertise in the area of concern. 

Unresolved after hours questions may be emailed to the Director of Library Services @ library@mi.edu to be answered during the following business day. The library adheres to the American Library Association’s (ALA) “Library Bill of Rights,” and “Code of Ethics,” the Association of College and Research Libraries’ (ACRL) “Intellectual Freedom Principles,”, and Music Library Association’s (MLA) “MLA Mission Statement.”  

If an unanticipated circumstance arises the acting library supervisor or in lieu of a supervisor the team of student employees holds the responsibility to decide how to proceed. The unusual circumstance will be reviewed by library staff at the earliest possible opportunity to determine whether a policy is necessary and whether any further action is required. The further action and or policy will then be approved by the Director of Library Services.
