DAWs (Digital Audio Workstation)

Free DAWs

  • If you have a Mac of some sort, GarageBand often comes on there for free or you can download it for free.
  • Audacity is free software that primarily focuses on recording but has some editing capabilities as well. It works on both Mac and PC
  • LANDR has a sampling tool that can help you practice making beats. While it isn't technically a DAW, it helps with audio production.
  • Traction Waveform - Free is a DAW with no track limits and that allows for simultaneous recording!
  • If you're interested in a collaborative project, Ohm Studio might be good. It has all the features of other DAWs but focuses on collaboration so others can contribute!
  • Cubase has been a popular free DAW for years. While not limitless, it's a very reliable system.
  • Soundbridge is another free DAW that focuses on simplicity, so it's very user-friendly.

In the top right is a drop-down menu called "Install Office." When you click it, it should look like this:

From here you can download the package for Office 365 or pick and choose individual apps and also choose a different language, if you prefer it. Once you click your option, it should automatically download. Follow the installation instructions on your computer and make sure to log in with your MI email once prompted.
