Sometimes, the best way to find your books is to go directly to the publishers. Check to see who your publisher is and see if you can order directly from them. Here are some of the most popular publishers:
Some don't mind used versions, which can be cheaper than brand new versions. You still want to be careful about getting scammed. Here are some sites to help you find a used copy:
The MI Library has a wealth of resources that you can use to find free versions of your textbooks without breaking the law. The Library has a selection of textbooks available for checkout completely free in person. Please review our checkout policies for more information. Search your textbooks on the Library Catalog to see if we have a copy available. You can also speak to someone at the circulation desk or contact us at:
Additionally, the Library has a collection of over 300 eBooks on Overdrive or on the Libby App (download on the App Store or Google Play Store), free to check out with an MI login. We have several textbooks and MI Press books available for checkout for 1 week with unlimited renewals. Please note that if someone places a hold on the item, you will not be able to renew it, so access is not guaranteed.
Just like the MI Library, public libraries also offer many resources that can be useful to you. The Los Angeles Public Library system is particularly vast with branches all over the city. To find a library with the closest copy of a particular book, follow these instructions:
Most public libraries will also have eBooks, audiobooks, and even music, media, and magazines that are free to access. We encourage all students to get a free library card as this can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars a year! It's just as easy and much less expensive. You will need a public library card, which is free to get. You can get an eCard and have it on their app by filling out an online application form. All you need is an address in LA County.
